Mainstream music is not about music anymore

This is an essay that was written by a close friend of mine (mhammad).
it is reprinted with his permission....(like i wouldn't have placed it if he said no :P)

Sometimes I ask myself, what happened to music as it were once known? For years many have been asking, “Is Rock dead?” But, lately I’ve been thinking that music as a whole might be on the brink of death [or maybe I'm being too dramatic/ harsh]. Then I remember that everything’s got a season and just have to accept that Rock will never be known in its purity as it once were in the 60 ,70 80s and even 90s. With the exception of and a small handful of other artists and bands
I lament at the lack of meaningful-lyrics-having artists that exist nowadays.

In conclusion, we have evolved; theoretically, we are a smarter race compared to some 40 odd years ago. So start writing songs that will actually suit our 'intellect'. Don't insult us with

Your feeling that tonight's gonna be a good good night
or
How lucky you are to be in love with your best friend

We just don't make songs like THEY used to..sigh..

MAINSTREAM MUSIC IS NOT ABOUT MUSIC ANYMORE

Its about the money mannn.  It’s about letting some guy write you a catchy song while you roll around in your vault all day long smoking the best weed with lots of really hot chicks.  Few bands got some great new music and other solo artists………………….
Look at ------- newest album, insane right?!?!?!?! WHY DOES THIS HAPPEN TO BANDS?  Why do they get turned into mainstream drones?  Why do major record labels sign them to contracts that force them to play regurgitated shit?  I don't know, but it scares me to death.

Let music breathe....the industry is dying...creativity is being squandered.

“I am not interested in forcing my music on people and that’s what the whole music industry nowadays is based on is forcing stations to play it, forcing people to listen to it.” John Frusciante

“As far as my solo record, I don’t want a gold record or anything, I am happy to be small and to have the people appreciate the music who really like me for being me “ John Frusciante.
